The Blue Lagoon Restaurant

Posted by eyore , 09 November 2010 · 1,513 views

The Blue lagoon Restaurant is a table service and situated to the left of the exit from the Pirates of the Caribbean specializing in nautical fare (Tuna, seafood etc).

When I first made this entry we were unaware that the restaurant had a loop playing other than the overspill from the Pirates ride (it shares the area of the start of the ride so the boats actually pass along the side of the restaurant which adds to the ambience of both).
I can confirm that there is, indeed, a loop for this area but the speaker positions mean that the nearer to the Pirates you are, the more difficult to hear it due to the noise of the ride.

This is another area loop which DLRP shared with WDW although edits differ between the two.
We have live partial recordings of the loop taken at various times in the last few years to compare and identify the tracks as, together, they make up the full loop. Music ID software also fail to identify these three tracks. If anyone is aware of the titles, please do let us know.
The WDW listing can be found here
http://www.magicmusi...ico-area-music/
Horizons has also provided links to purchase the tracks so we won't repeat them here.
We have been unsuccessful in adding to/identifying the track names regarding the three unknowns but can confirm that they are the same on both loops. We have managed to identify the unknown at track 12 though  Posted Image

Hmm... that's odd.... I was sure that it played ethnic percussion music when I was eating there a few years back. It's true that I haven't been there in a while, but still...
Nothing playing whist I've been there (nor heard anything from riding POC ).
Of course that doesn't mean it has always been silent - just the times we have visited to check/record over the last couple of years.
I never ate there in the earlier years but I'll check my tapes of POC and see if it played music (I have tapes each year from 1992 - several rides a year)  :D
Odd that it should have played the percussion loop though - that's usually only for the "African" area of Adventureland - Hakuna Matata (only outside now) and the Giraffe shop (only inside). Wonder if the used the same loop?
Well, today I had a few minutes so I entered the Blue Lagoon to make sure. In the entrance area it plays the general Pirates area music loop and inside the restaurant itself, just as I remembered, it was audibly playing an ethnic percussive loop (no relation to the Hakuna Matata loop). It probably was out of order when you were there...

Sorry! I guess it won't be easy to make a track list... ;)
I guess it's one of those "on and off" loops that DLRP are getting known for. I've checked several times over the years and the only sound was the bleedthrough from the pirates ride.
Maybe it only plays at certain times of the day or year?
I wonder what the music is if it's not the exterior Hakuna Matata loop?
We'll certainly make that a priority for next year (if it's playing - two of us have checked at different times, I think - no loop).
You are 100% certain it's not the Balafon marimba etc stuff as played in the curious Giraffe store?
You're right, getting a possible one hour loop isn't going to be easy (unless I eat really slowly).  :P  Thanks for checking it out for us. I'll note the blog accordingly.
It may also depend on where you're seated... I believe that the speakers are under the thatched roofs so if you're closer to the water you may have trouble making it out over the POTC ride sounds; the volume is pretty low. Try to get one of the higher tables for your recording...

And yeah, I know the African loop pretty well, it definitely didn't sound like it. It has a softer, more relaxing sound to it.
I know the sounds you are describing. I Have always put that down as coming from the ride (they have always seemed - to me - to come from the palm trees to the left of the boats - the opposite side to the restaurant)which is why I haven't attributed them to the loop.
If memory serves me right, it's only a small section that plays and repeats (at least my videos all have the same sound - around eight notes or so - but, then again, marimba music isn't that easy to remember. I thought it sounded a little like the opening sequence to the Balafon track Amatobo.
The sound quality I have is quite poor as I have the directional mic pointed at the restaurant and the sound "appears" to come from behind me - if you follow. Of course, there may just be extra speakers situated there as well.
Quite a conundrum.
Do you know if there are actual tracks (therefore a loop) involved or just a gentle repeating background sound?
I'd love to get this one sorted especially as it's unusual to have a "shared" sound.
Any help would be appreciated. I've also asked on the "other" site  ;)
I have to admit that I didn't spend enough time there to see if there were several distinct tracks involved... However, on the POTC audio track list it's treated as a longer loop; the list mentions the duration of brief show tracks but not that of area loops. Of course this lack of information is no proof of any kind, but at least it seems to point to the fact that it's a regular music loop.
I'm pleased to say that we have actually identified most of the loop now.
Thank you for your help in this. If you hadn't been so sure that there actually was a loop playing, we'd probably have missed the opportunity to make the playlist at all.

It's a very little detail, but I think That the track 07 : "Zulu Chant" is on the CD album "Steel Band Music Of The Carribbean" (before the remastered version, of course).

"Zulu Chant" on the album "Drums of Steel" has a variation in the speed comparated with the loop in live. It's the same version, but I think it were remastered and the speed changes with some little secondes.
