Sleeping Beauty Castle (Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant )

Posted by eyore, 11 June 2011 · 440 views

The most obvious sign that you are in Disneyland is the castle at the end of Main street.
The interior gallery has stained glass windows depicting scenes from Sleeping Beauty, a beautiful tapestry of the fight with the dragon, some spinning wheels and two suits of armour which snore (honest, I have a recording of them).

Interior loop

01/ 0.06 Prince Phillip Arrives (0.00-0.07)
02/ 0.13 Main Title Prologue (1.46-)
03/ 1.24 Hail To The Princess Aurora (instrumental)
04/ 3.20 The Gifts of Beauty and Song (0-2.26)
05/ 5.50 True Love Conquers All (5.01 - )
06/ 6.21 The Burning of The Spinning Wheels/The Fairies Plan (2.38-2.59
The Burning of The Spinning Wheels/The Fairies Plan (3.27 – end?)
The Burning of The Spinning Wheels/The Fairies Plan (3.54 – end?)
07/ 7.34 A Cottage in The Woods (1.21 - )
08/ 10.02 I wonder (2-46-)
09/ 11.13 The Fairies Plan (edit n/k due to noise of guests on live recording)
10/ 11.44 Once Upon A Dream - instrumental (0.29-)
11/ 14.26 A secret revealed (0.38-53)
12/ 14.45 Auroras Return (0.18 -1.28)
13/ 16.15 Sleeping Beauty 1-51 – end
14/ 17:25 (not on soundtrack CD) Prelude to Forbidden mountain (the fairies dash to the cottage where they find the prince has been abducted)
15/ 18.00 A Fairy Tale Come True (0.00-1.29)
16/ 19.20 Awakening
17/ 22.05 Finale

Please see the comments section re tracks 6 and 9. The times are taken from a live recording. Guest noise can sometimes make an exact edit difficult to pin down.

All from the OST. :mp3:

The exterior plays the Fantasyland Castle Medley (to be found on the WDW offiicial album) :cd:

Great! It's always good to see a loop which is (mostly) available on CD!

I wonder (no pun intended) about tracks 6 and 9, though... Am I correct in thinking that the second edit (3.27 - end) of track 6 is a typo? I figured that it might be correct and they simply repeat the last part, but that doesn't fit with the track's duration. Also, track 9 seems to be a shorter edit of the same cue, right?

Just thought I'd point that out! Thanks for posting these!
Not one of the easiest loops to capture and the acoustics of the castle interior amplify any sounds from guests walking through below. To confirm, the instrumental tracks match the Soundtrack exactly but obviously exclude vocals. Re track 6 and 9, I'm afraid my orginal notes when IDing tracks are no real help here so you're probably right.
Added a couple of ? to those tracks and a short comment at the end of the listing. Hopefully that should alert readers to the fact that it's not 100%.
Possibly have to try for another recording at some time but, as needmagic says, a difficult place to record due to the echo effect of the guest noise.
At least the titles are OK. :D
Thanks a lot for this entry!!

My little contribution:
I've been watching some videos and I think that track 9 is not The Fairies Plan, it's the Main Title-Prologue (although I don't know the starting point). In addition, track 10 doesn't start at 0:29, but at 0:45 (which matches your track duration).

09/ 11.13 Prologue (?? - 1:13)
10/ 11.44 Once Upon A Dream - instrumental (0.45 -)

You can check both things here: (The transition between tracks 09 and 10 takes place at 0:35).

Are the instrumental versions commercially available?
Thanks for that, we'll check it out.
As we said, there's a LOT of noise on the recording so it was difficult to make a positive ID on that track and also where it ended and the next one started and therefore the edit.
Still working on your last question
I doubt that the instrumental versions are available... I seem to remember that there was a Disney Karaoke CD released a few years back which used the original background tracks, but supposing that songs from Sleeping Beauty were included, it definitely didn't have all of them.

DLP uses background tracks of Disney feature songs in plenty of places. Sometimes they're re-recordings but I don't think that counts for the castle, Le Pays des Contes de Fées, the Hakuna Matata interior loop, Col. Hathi's Pizza Outpost, the former Adventureland Bazaar loop... in those cases I guess WDI simply has access to the master tracks.
Yes, it's usual that things are instrumentals which are studio recorded and vocals added later.
It would be very unlikely that only the final versions would be retained - how would they make the remixes ;)
We'll keep looking though. Sometimes you get a surprise with these things - especially with the older stuff. So many things Disney go out of print but turn up in the oddest places.
Remember, we are talking over 50 years for possible released versions.
I have seen quite a few Karaoke albums (vinyl and CD) which sounded as though they were from the soundtracks so you never know. Mind you, they weren't called Karaoke back then, of course.
With hindsight, I'm sorry I never bought any of those when I saw them in the stores back in the 60's or thereabouts. :(
Continuing with the investigation,.. I think there's a missing track between 13 and 14.<br><br>Listen to this video:<br><br><br>It includes:<br>0:00 - 1:12&nbsp; --&nbsp; The ending od "10/ Once Upon a Dream- instrumental"<br><br>1:12 - 1:31&nbsp; --&nbsp; "11/ A Secret Revealed"<br>1:31 - 2:41&nbsp; --&nbsp; "12/ Aurora's Return"<br>2:41 - 4:08&nbsp; --&nbsp; "13/ Sleeping Beauty" (A lot of noise here, you have to guess)<br><b>4:08 - end&nbsp;&nbsp; -- The 30 seconds missing track.</b> I can't find this song anywere in the soundtrack CD, but I remember it from the movie.<br><br>The same melody plays in the following video:<br><br>At 0:40 you can hear the beginning of track 14/ "A Fairy Tale Come True", wich may confirm the position.<br>
Sorry, something happened with the code and I couldn't fix it editing.
Going back to live recording to check. The rough draft does have a "?" for that so may have missed it.
Thanks for pointing it out :o
Maybe it's forbidden mountain or battle with the forces of evil? Need to check it. Maybe I was too quick posting this one.
Thank you, I guess it's a part of Forbidden Mountain (plays as the music to the fairies rush home after the prince has been abducted but, as there is a vocal between it and the actual "forbidden mountain" music, I guess they missed it out of the CD (which I don't have myself).
I think it's best called "prelude to FM" then so as not to confuse. From the samples I have listened to you, that track starts after the vocals.
Need to find out if it has a genuine title now
