Emporium - Main Street USA

Posted by eyore , 19 June 2012 · 1,275 views

The Emporium is the largest store in the park although it may not look so from the outside. It's the first store on Main Street and the interior is huge with many sections.
Do look up. There is a system of carrying money dating from when employees were not allowed to handle cash and it was sent to a cashier, hidden from the public. The system was actually designed by Eddie Sotto to reflect what was in many stores around the turn of the century. The Emporium sells pretty well everything that you can buy in the park and is a magnet for guests on their way home as it remains open  for up to an hour after the park closes!
In keeping with the setting, the music loop consists of Scott Joplin style piano rags and piano/violin rags.
Some of these are proving difficult to identify. We have this as a "work in progress" but display what we have to assist those who may be seeking the music from the store.
As always, any additional information is welcome.
This loop also plays in the Disney Clothiers store and also in Ribbons and Bows/Bixby Brothers/Bixby Babies and the Storeybook Store (confirmed in August 2012 by eyore)
Our thanks to DavidG for suggesting it.

Loop length ~1:01:00
Compared to a live recording May 2012

Those marked ? indicate we are not 100% convinced of the source  (yet).
The track at 43:16 is repeatedly ID's by music software.
Please remember, this is a work in progress so keep checking back (especially before buying any albums)!

I believe that this one also plays at Ribbons & Bows / Bixby Brothers (I heard this version of the Entertainer there) and possibly at Disney Clothiers?
I believe you are correct. Unfortunately, we don't yet have a full recording of either location. Bixby Brothers (the actual original store, not the Ribbons and Bows store) was at the back of the Emporium and was a separate store (the walls have gone now and it's now part of the Emporium) and I believe it did share the loop at that time so it would make sense that their "other" store would also play the same to "link" them. The short clip we do have of Disney Clothiers appears to agree with the Emporium so that's a good start but it's only a few minutes long.
We have nothing at all from Ribbons and Bows (yet) so we'll put that as a priority to get a recording for.
Thank you for the pointer. We'll check it out. I'll add those details to the main blog.
Just checked the short clip frm Disney Clothiers and it plays the identical tracks as in the Emporium listing from 54:27 - 59:35 so it looks like they are the same loops for the Emporium and Disney Clothiers. I'd like a little more of the Clothiers to be absolutely sure that they are identical but it's looking good :)
I can confirm that "The Entertainer" plays in the shops Disney Clothiers, Ribbons & Bows / Bixby Babies and Storybook Store.
I have short recordings of the Entertainer and the following track from Ribbons & Bows if that helps.
Likewise I can confirm Tell Her at Twighlight was playing at Disney Clothiers in July 2011 which confirms suspicions.   Thanks for your help on this one

I wonder if any of the EDL/DLP Main Street shop loops migrated back to the stateside parks.  Our shops play the music so quietly, it's hard to get a good recording... but wonder if anyone has compared these listings with what they have heard.

I mean, we got the main Main Street BGM in '92, so it wouldn't be unexpected...
They could well have migrated but, unfortunately, there are not that many who do the store loops. Any help in spotting other locations would be great. "Also plays in" is useful information to publish.
There's very little in them that singles them out as "French" with a few exceptions so they would fit in.

Yep, that was my thought.  Some of the ragtime may not be the right "feel" for our Main Street, but then again, in a store, played at a very low level... who knows.  Wish I was in the area so could get some recordings, even if short and noisy, just to see if we had any leads...
I can confirm that (as og Aug 12) the same loop does indeed play in Disney Clothiers, Ribbons & Bows / Bixby Babies and Storybook Store as well. Blog enteries to refer back to this page to appear soon..

At 54'27 : we have "Zum Tanztee Mit Alice" who is repeated twice.
Thanks for the memory jog. We were unsure of this as we had been unable to find a recording of it anywhere so left it blank. After your post I found this
http://www.amazon.de...s/dp/B0000YWG58
It has sound samples :)

"Contentment Rag" is not the version of the album "Music for Silent Films Vol 2". It's not the same interpretation.

La version de "Music for silent movies vol.2" est beaucoup plus piquée, tandis que celle du loop est jouée davantage liée (désolé, ça je ne sais pas le dire en anglais :-)
