It's official!

The Walt Disney and the 1964 World's Fair set will hit the streets on March 24, 2009!

Though the date had been advertised on several sites like Amazon and Barnes and Noble, I was hesitant to post until I was absolutely sure the date was going to remain accurate. We received the latest print run and everything looks fantastic. Our first run samples (the first completed products off the line) have also arrived verifying that everything is ready to ship!

I appreciate your patience during the last few weeks (as well as the nearly nine years before that), and I hope you all enjoy this incredible collection!

In other news–

I'm sure you read on the board here that the EMP traveling exhibit "The Music Behind the Magic" has made its way to Hemet, CA. I was there February 6th to open the exhibit and I (and hopefully my engineer Jeff Sheridan) will be returning March 19th for a special presentation on the music from the parks. I'll be talking a bit about the history of three classics – The Enchanted Tiki Room, it's a small world, The Haunted Mansion, and how Imagineering makes the audio work within the attraction and how I build the tracks for the Official Albums. The program starts at approximately 7pm. Here's the address of The Western Center Museum for all the latest info. There's several other presentations coming up that will interest you as well.

If you're in the area, check out this fascinating museum as well as the "Music Behind the Magic" exhibit. If you can make it to my presentation on the 19th, please come up and say 'Hi.' I'd love to meet you in person!

That's it for now. Sorry I haven't been around lately, I'm working on some pretty fun projects at the moment, and I'll post about those as we get closer to their release date later this year.

Many thanks,
Randy Thornton

Thanks for the update Randy!

The March 19th presentation sounds very interesting. However, I won't be able to attend. Is your presentation going to be recorded for those not fortunate enough to attend? If not, who here will voluntary to sneak a microphone in and and capture Randy's presentation for us? :o

More importantly, will marty sklar and a panel of 4 other imagineers be there to give me angry looking glares and cut each other off trying to denounce my question during a questionnaire session again? :o

Thanks for the update Randy. I'm assuming the box set will be available at DL? If so, what are the odds it will be in the park before the 24th?

Hope to be in Hemet on the 19th as well. I live in Corona so it's not too terrible of a drive for me.

Hey stevek!

Unfortunately, I can't imagine the set would be out at the park before the street date. Stranger things have happened, but I think it would be highly unlikely.

If you do make it to The Western Center Museum on the 19th, please make sure to come up and say HI!

Too bad, you could've sold and signed copies on the 19th and felt all important :o

As of now I plan to be there. Whew though, 2 hour drive from the valley... Thursday afternoon traffic.. bla :o From the looks of it I think I'll go early and try out Soboba casino for a couple hours heh.

Be sure to place the microphone close enough to Randy so we can hear everything he says. I'll be expecting a good quality recording! :o

Are (still) cameras even allowed? :o It's a museum so probably but meh. I'm not gonna be videotaping but grabbing a picture or two of the exhibit might be fun =P

Randy is actually an Audio-Animatronics® figure. If you get the microphone too close to him you're likely to hear various mechanical noises. :o

These two posts were hilarious! :o Nice shot Almandot, exactly the setup I expect you to have at the exhibit.

And, amazingly, it's available from Amazon.co.uk as well although it uses an exchange rate which makes it quite expensive - ÂŁ42.12 (that's about $59 US).
Was there a track listing posted or is that still TBA?
I couldn't find one.

Yes, I read that but, as I'm not as familiar with some of these attractions as I should be, I was looking for more detail.
"Progressland" means nothing to me at the moment and there's a whole CD of it.
I should/must research more ;)

There's enough listed there to ensure I do buy it though.

Progressland was GE's pavilion at the 1964 NY World's Fair.
