Howdy!

Is it me, or is there no score album release on the horizon for the new Disneynature film "Earth"?  It's a shame, too -- the music is quite spectacular, and I'm sure would appeal to score buffs, classical enthusiasts, and even just fans of the film.

Does anyone out there have any information?

If I'm not mistaken, this theatrical release is just a repackaged/expanded(?) version of segments from the BBC television series "Planet Earth" which was scored by George Fenton.  As such, it may simply reuse music from the series, for which a soundtrack CD was released: Amazon link.



Check out the sample clips and see if they match what you heard in the film.

Hello there!

Thanks for the pointer, but from what I understand, the score for the film is totally new.  It's hard for me to tell from the clips, though.  Perhaps someone familiar with the score from "Planet Earth" who has seen "Earth" can say definitively?

In any case, thanks!  The "Planet Earth" score is lovely, as well.

Yes, it's a new score for the film.

As it says, the TV series and the film were filmed together so they are not the same.
I suspect the CD will follow in due time as it's new and not reused stuff from the series.

Ooops, my mistake!  Sorry for the bad info...

Per an article I saw last week, one of the directors remarked that there's about 60% footage reuse from the TV series to the film... the rest is new.  I saw the film last week, liked it quite a bit.  The score was good, yes, but I think the visuals are what dominated overall.

Yes, that's right.
The project was a "parallel " one so much of the best from the TV series was used along with some footage that was filmed at the same time but not used for the series (not unwanted footage, just additional).
The difference being that some footage is more suitable for the big screen (and more impressive) whilst some is more suited to the TV.
It's a really great idea but I haven't seen the film here in the UK.
I think it's set to open in July here but don't know how wide a distribution it will have.

Althought I did not see "Earth" when it was released last year, I do plan on seeing "Oceans" when it shows in a couple weeks. Not sure if a soundtrack will be released, but Disney does have a single to download "Make A Wave". Here is the official website where you can preview.
